How to Get Started at the Gym: Stop Overthinking and Take Action

Philosophy: Easy, Correct, Enjoyable

You’ve been thinking about going to the gym. You’re constantly wondering: What time is it open? Is the equipment going to be intimidating? Will I feel comfortable there? Is it safe? How much is it going to cost? It’s like a constant loop in your head. You want to know every detail—every answer to every question—before you step foot inside.

And I get it. You’re bored. You’re confused. You don’t know where to begin, so you stay stuck, not taking action. But here’s the truth: You don’t need all the answers before you walk through the door. You just need to try. Try the complimentary session, step inside, and see for yourself. That’s where the magic happens.

When you finally take that step, it’s rare that you’ll leave feeling worse off. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. We’re all stuck in our own heads, scrolling through social media, absorbing the negativity, and letting it keep us exactly where we are. But here’s the question: Who’s going to disrupt that cycle for you?

Spoiler alert: You are.

You have to break free from that mental loop, and hopefully, this blog is your wake-up call. I’ve had people call me every six months asking the same questions about the gym—what it’s like, what we do, how it works. For two or three years, they called without ever stepping foot inside. Why? Because they were waiting for the "right" time.

News flash: There is no right time.

People wait for all kinds of reasons. "I need to get through this busy season." "I want to get in shape before I even start at the gym." "I’m waiting for a sign." Whether it’s waiting for the perfect moment or some external validation, it never comes. And here’s the thing—your "best physique" isn’t the end goal. It’s not just about how you look. It’s about functioning as a human being, as a parent, as someone who wants to live well.

Even if you’re young and feeling invincible, realize that for your brain, for your body, for all the sitting around we do—you need to do something for your physical self. You are human, after all.

Now let’s talk about why you’re not showing up. Why do you struggle to take that first step? Because you may not see the value yet. You may not know what it’s going to do for your life. Let me tell you: It’s going to change everything. Your relationships, your ability to handle stress, the way you feel in your own skin, how you breathe, how you move, your overall resilience—it all changes.

So stop thinking so much. Overthinking is just another loop keeping you stuck. Think less. Move more. Take action. That thing you’re a little afraid of? It’s probably just excitement in disguise.

Remember: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

And that step? It’s waiting for you at the gym door. Time to stop thinking about it and just show up.
