It’s Not Just the Holidays!

It’s Not Just the Holidays!

Philosophy: Easy, Correct, Enjoyable

The holidays—oh, the glorious holidays. From Halloween to Thanksgiving, Hanukkah to Christmas, and right through to New Year’s Eve, it’s a stretch of time that feels like one big permission slip to let go. The indulgence, the parties, the endless treats—it’s almost cultural to throw caution to the wind and say, “Screw it!”

But here’s the deal: it’s not just a day here or there. It’s not just a slice of pie or a cookie. It’s one day, two days, three days, weeks, and eventually months strung together where we collectively hit pause on our health. That “fuck it” mindset has real consequences. Cumulative Choices Add Up

Every year, the average American gains at least a pound during the holiday season. Doesn’t sound like much, right? But here’s the kicker—that weight is rarely lost. Multiply that over five, ten, or twenty years, and now we’re talking about real health implications. Society doesn’t help. From Halloween candy aisles to Thanksgiving buffets and holiday cocktail parties, there’s a subtle, unspoken message: “It’s okay to indulge guilt-free—it’s the holidays!”
But when you think about it, this stretch from late October to early January is a huge chunk of your life. Do we really want to spend a significant part of every year in a rut of overindulgence, setting ourselves back?

I’m Not Saying Don’t Enjoy It

Let me be clear—I’m not the Grinch. I’m not saying skip the mashed potatoes or decline your grandma’s famous cookies. What I’m saying is be aware. Be intentional. Enjoy the holidays, but don’t let the holidays enjoy you.

This season doesn’t have to be about extremes. You don’t have to give it all up, and you don’t have to give it all in. Stay mindful of how those small, seemingly harmless choices accumulate. It’s about balance, discipline, and remembering that your health matters every day—not just
when the holidays are over.

So this year, give yourself a gift: awareness. Because it’s not just the holidays—it’s your life.
